Towns and villages.
You sit across the aisle
From each other. You
Face opposite
Directions. One of you
Reads, one of you looks
Out the window
As if praying
Or hoping. You are
Wandering the beach
To the east. You want
To hold hands with someone

Michael Poage
Michael Poage was born in Virginia. He has published fifteen books of poetry, most recently, HEART: COLLECTED POEMS 1975-2024, Spartan Press, 2024. He served as the Poet-in-Residence at Dzemal Bijedic University in Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina, 2018 and has taught English literature and ESL courses in Latvia and, virtually, in Thailand. He lives in Wichita, Kansas with his wife, the historian, teacher, activist, and writer Dr. Gretchen Eick.
