Our aim at Hooligan Street Poetry is to bring you writing that is raw as it is beautiful. That is the ideal. Whether we can approach that ideal is another matter. The best way to know what we are about is to read what we publish. If you think your work has the elbows and grit to find a place here, please share.
Submit your work through our contact form below.
We will generally let you know if your submission has been selected within four weeks. There are no strict guidelines to what we accept; if submitting poetry we ask that you include 3-6 pieces. We also ask that you include a short bio and photo with your work. If you’re a recluse the photo can be of your dog, the Eiffel Tower, a single-celled amoeba, or similarly poetically inclined objects. We publish poetry, photo-essays, short fiction, creative non-fiction, art, performance, spoken word and anything else that holds, at least for a moment, our jaded and delirious attention spans.
Photo Essays/Photography/Art
If submitting work in these categories please contact us first with an outline or proposal via our contact form.
Performance
For our performance and spoken word section all work will be hosted externally on the Hooligan Street Poetry YouTube channel. To submit work for us to review for this category please contact us via our contact form and we can make arrangements for the transfer of the larger files. If accepted we will put them in a format suitable for our channel.
Payment
While we firmly believe that poets, like other artists, should be rewarded for their work, the economics of small press publications is based more in intangible, rather than material dialectics. At this stage we are not offering payment for pieces published in the online journal. However, we are aiming at producing an annual print magazine and occasional special editions; authors selected for print editions will receive payment.
Copyright
Copyright remains with the author. By submitting your work to us you are agreeing to give us the non-exclusive rights to print your work online and in print, and the right to render it in other audio or audiovisual forms, at our discretion. We will consider work that has been published elsewhere. We only ask that you do not publish work submitted to us in other publications for a year from the time of our acceptance of your work for publication.
Delivery
We also accept submissions via mail, though it is still preferable if you contact us first to let us know what you are sending. Our deliver address is;
